ENDA Episode 90→ The time when ENDA faces a Screen Burn-in (Part 2)
I was reminded that a planar track doesn’t have to be a neat rectangle.
In a previous episode, we introduced the screen burn‑in shot, and two of the main challenges were the camera shake and the light flickering coming from the monitor.
Hence, I decided to tackle both in the first phase by analyzing the plate. The monitor flickers constantly, and animated text fills almost the entire screen, making a modest camera move surprisingly tough to track. An initial pass in Mocha slipped off the target, and a straightforward rectangle in Nuke’s Planar Tracker had the same issues.
During a mentorship session at Alpha Chromatica Education (ACE), I was reminded that a planar track doesn’t have to be a neat rectangle. So I redrew the track shape to cling only to the outer borders (avoiding the animated graphics) and enabled the function "Adjust for Illumination Changes". With those adjustments, Nuke’s Planar Tracker finally locked in, ignoring the flicker and graphic swaps.
With a solid track secured, the fun begins: dropping in our own screen graphics and recreating the original flicker so the new content feels baked into the plate.
More breakdowns soon, so… stay tuned!
The journey continues…
