Last time, ENDA took on the challenge of rotoscoping The Mask’s Cuban Pete dance. This round, it’s all about exploring Mocha Pro’s new Machine Learning masks, a handy way to speed up the process before jumping into any manual work.

How does it work? Here’s the quick breakdown:

  1. Load the Shot in Mocha Pro.
  2. Click “Create New Mask ML Layer” (the icon that looks like an arrow with two stars).
  3. Select the part of the shot you want to track.
  4. Clean your selection by right-clicking with your mouse or pen.
  5. Use the “Pick Tool” (the black cursor icon) once you’re happy with the selection.
  6. Activate “Generate Matte” under the Matte shelf to create the alpha.
  7. Track your Mask so the matte follows your subject in motion.
  8. Export the Alpha by clicking “Export Rendered Shapes” in the Matte shelf.

Even with their limitations and imperfections, these Machine Learning features provide core mattes that save you time, allowing you to focus on refining edges.

And believe it or not, there’s another tool that can cut down roto work in the edges even more…

But that’s for another episode.

The journey continues…
