ENDA Episode 58→ The time when ENDA appreciates the people behind the job
However, there is an essential skill that we tend to take for granted: treating others as people.
It is common that as artists, we focus solely on our technical and artistic skills. After all, that is how we improve our portfolio, and get better jobs.
However, there is an essential skill that we tend to take for granted: treating others as people.
In essence, seeing the person behind the desk and being conscious that no matter how professional or good at his/her job is, he/she is still a human being who has their own set of problems and emotional limits.
This allows you as a co-worker or supervisor to understand the person behind the job and have better communication at work. Especially if it involves dealing with other departments. The best producers are the ones who have this understanding and are highly appreciated by their teams.
Nonetheless, you will be surprised by the number of times you may cross people who lack this “skill” and tend to believe Intouchables, just because “they are good at their job”, so they can treat everyone like they want. Moreover, if they are in a higher position.
Well… that does not last for too long. People get tired of those who do not show even professional respect.
And what do people do when they get tired? They talk about it, not once, not twice, but as many times as that keeps happening. Some quit, others stay, but not with the best attitude. Something certain: the team does not perform as usual and the results will show it.
If I could sum it up, it would be that one of the best pieces of advice I was given when I was still in “Paradise” (https://lnkd.in/eG2gbbCD) was: “Don’t be an a##hashtag#ole!”
And, after a trip down memory lane, I can confirm that it will be extremely difficult, or even impossible, for those who do not follow this advice to remain or enter the industry.
So next time you see someone from work, remember that there is a person behind the job title, and behind every person, there is a whole world to understand.
The journey continues…
