ENDA Episode 255 → The time when ENDA fights with a fire sword (Part 13)
So, it is not simply moving left and right. It is also moving up and down.
The interactive lighting challenge continues!
For this new frame range, things were supposed to be easy.
The sword goes out of frame, taking the fire with it. That should mean less work, right?
Wrong!
Even if the light source is out of frame, it still emits light. And although it is not as intense as before, it can still affect the character.
However, there is another consideration.
In the video below, we can see how the light on the hair fades out when the sword disappears, while a small amount of light remains on the shirt.
Why?
Because when the sword moves, it is not moving as a 2D object, but through 3D space.
So, it is not simply moving left and right. It is also moving up and down.
Judging by the arm’s motion, the sword is moving lower. That means the light on the hair fades because the source is no longer hitting it, while the shirt still receives some illumination because the light source, although farther away, remains closer to its level.
These are the kinds of details that can make a difference when presenting a first compositing pass.
And when we watch the result together with the previous frames, the lighting holds up well.
The shot is starting to take shape, but there is still a lot to do.
But that will be for a future episode.
The journey continues…
