The interactive lighting continues!

In Part 11, we saw that every motion needs to be matched with the position of the shapes, even when perspective changes are involved.

Today, it is all about finding the right timing for those shapes.

In the video below, we can see how the shapes disappear alongside the light source as it exits the frame.

In these cases, we have two options:

➡️ We move the shapes out of the frame and wait until the light source enters the frame again.

➡️ We change the lifetime settings of the shape so it disappears after the first exit, then create a new shape for the next frame range.

The first option allows us to keep everything in one shape, which is ideal for quick movements.

On the other hand, the second option is more convenient when there are longer periods where the light source is out of frame. In that case, it is better to create another shape. To make things easier, we can simply copy the same shape before changing its lifetime, then reuse it in the new frame range.

In the end, both options give us a result where the interactive lighting keeps matching the motion of the fire sword.

And we have only done thirty frames of this shot!

The progress is slow, but every step is necessary to reach the final comp and, most importantly, to learn how light actually works on different types of surfaces.

And the rest of the shot promises a lot.

But that will be for a future episode.

So, stay tuned!

The journey continues...
