ENDA Episode 223→ The time when ENDA works on a Paint Out Shot (Part 11)
If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that this shot shifts too much in perspective and lighting, so we need different clean plates...
In a previous episode, we finished restoring the area where the screen-left wire used to be. From now on, it’s all about the screen-right wire.
And what better place to start than with the hair?
To keep things manageable, we took a short frame range for testing, from Frame 1 to 10.
In the video below, the first step is using our clean plates. We start with Frame 1, mask out the section we need, and bring the hair detail back using a luma key. Then we animate it to follow the head’s motion.
You might think that’s it, because surely one clean plate would cover the whole shot…
But no.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that this shot shifts too much in perspective and lighting, so we need different clean plates depending on what the plate is doing at that moment.
With that in mind, we move on to the clean plate from Frame 10. Here we need to split the work into two separate hair sections, because their motion is independent. Aside from that, the process is the same: mask, recover detail, and animate it into place.
Once we hit play, the hair holds up nicely, feels integrated, and there’s no trace of odd movement.
However, this is only one of many areas we still need to restore.
Next up, for example, is the neck skin.
But that will be for a future episode.
The journey continues...
