This is one of those questions every compositor asks themselves at least once in their career. Luckily, new tools continue to be developed to tackle some of our most time-consuming tasks.
And that brings us to Segment Anything, part of the Cattery library for Nuke.
In the video below, you can see it do something that feels almost magical: it can generate a Cryptomatte-style result from the plate, or even output a single mask with the bonus of downres control.
It sounds ideal for a roto-heavy shot, but as with everything, there are pros and cons to using this node.
