We’re back with the Barbie shot!

This shot was particularly challenging when we first began our journey, and it still is. So we had to put it aside for a while. During that time, ENDA sharpened his skills and learned new techniques.

Now, with six projects on the reel, we’re back to face this wire removal.

Thankfully, we found a solid starting point: building the clean plates to restore Barbie.

You might be thinking there were only two or three clean-plate frames in the whole shot… and you’d be way off.

Five? No.

Ten? No.

Fifteen? Closer… but still no.

The answer: nineteen clean-plate frames.

You might think I’m exaggerating, but as you can see in the video below, I’m not.

If you watch the shot again, you’ll notice the actress turns her head, and the wires move with her, so areas like her hair and face change drastically from one frame to the next.

As a result, we had to create clean plates for many of those frames and make sure they could be used smoothly through the transitions.

Another factor is that, in some cases, like Frame 10, we needed two versions:

🔹One with the wire removed

🔹Another where parts of the necklace were cleaned to restore more skin information.

That way, when we bring the ornament back, we have enough background detail to patch any holes convincingly.

It sounds like a lot to consider just for the clean-plate stage… and we’re only just getting started.

We’ll be diving deeper as we push further into this shot, so stay tuned!

The journey continues...
