We take our first step towards escaping this gunfight!

First things first: paint-out.

I know, it’s not the most glamorous task, but it’s something every compositor has to do at some point, and it’s always better to tackle it from the start.

Of course, if you’re in a big studio, this part might be sent elsewhere.

The key here is the clean-up. Usually, the original muzzle flash from set is used as a reference, and depending on the type of muzzle flash, the paint-out work can be easier or trickier.

In this case, it’s just a few quick brushes with the RotoPaint node for each muzzle flash, and we’re done.

Once again, it’s not the flashiest task, but we’ve got to start somewhere. The real challenge comes next: integrating the new muzzle flashes.

And if you think it’s as simple as downloading footage and doing an A over B... well, you might be skipping a few crucial steps.

But that’s a story for another episode.

So, stay tuned!

The journey continues...
