ENDA Episode 119→ The time when ENDA shares how to protect our vision (Part 2)
As VFX artists, our eyes are our most vital tools, without them, there’s no comp, no lighting pass, no animation, no art.
In the first part, we saw how endless screen sessions can lead to everything from dry eyes to color-vision quirks. As VFX artists, our eyes are our most vital tools; without them, there’s no comp, no lighting pass, no animation, and above all: no art.
So here’s the single most important tip:
Book an annual visit (or better yet, twice a year) with a trusted ophthalmologist—and invest in solid vision insurance. Your eyes are your greatest asset; don’t skimp on their care.
Beyond medical check-ups, here are a few habits my eye doctor and some advice that I received over the years:
Embrace the 20-20-20 Rule
Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This simple reset gives your focus muscles a moment to relax before they get sore.
Optimize Your Workspace Lighting
Strike a balance between your monitor’s glow and your room’s ambient light. Too much contrast forces your pupils to strain; soft, even lighting keeps fatigue at bay.
Schedule Micro-Breaks
It’s not just about your eyes. Short breaks clear mental fog, stretch your body, and help you return to the comp with fresh eyes (literally).
Taking these steps isn’t a luxury; it’s an investment in your career longevity. Healthy vision today means sharper artistry tomorrow.
What’s one screen-saving habit you’ve adopted?
The journey continues…
