As VFX artists, our days and often our nights are spent locked onto a screen, hunting down that perfect comp. We leap from node to node, tweak color wheels, and chase rotoscoped hairs until time simply disappears.

But then reality hits: our eyes ache, lids grow heavy, and in the long run, we invite bigger problems: dry eye, chronic strain, even early color-vision gaps or retinal issues.

I’ve seen it firsthand:

➡️ A lighting supervisor who couldn’t work unless the room was pitch-black.

➡️ A classmate expert in computers who carries eye drops everywhere, dotting his vision every few hours.

And those are the cases that I just know.

Why all this matters? Because unlike the computer, our eyes aren’t replaceable parts, they’re the very instruments of our craft.

No vision = No comp.

No sharp sight = No lighting finesse or detailed simulation or quirky animation.

So… how do we keep our eyes in top form?

Well, that’s a topic for the next episode.

The journey continues…
