ENDA Episode 11→ The time when the Endless Apprentice met the Artist, the Technician, and the Producer (Part 2)
The Producer is the one that puts the Artist’s feet on the ground and reminds them of their budget limitations
We talked about the Artist and the Technician in Part 1, but today I want to focus on the profile that we often miss in the groups and is more crucial than we thought:
➡️ The Producer: a person who could have tendencies in one (or both) of the previous profiles, but whose abilities in production and management surpass by a lot anyone else.
If the Artist is the one that the team looks up to for inspiration and encouragement. The Producer is the one that puts the Artist’s feet on the ground and reminds them of their budget limitations and they should work based on that. Translation: he/she is the voice of reason in the group, someone has to.
If the Technician is the one who deals with technical problems and assures that everything comes to life. The Producer is the one who makes sure that he has all the right pieces of equipment and software through negotiations, exchanges, favors, or deals which ensure that they have the right tools without having to blow up the budget.
In both live-action and animated productions, they would be in the Production department, first as assistants and then as a producer of a respective area. However in the end, if they play their cards right, they could be in charge of big projects, having even more weight than the directors.
Most of these producers would have also the drive to write their own stories, but different from the Artists, they won’t have enough ability to give them life through drawing or other artistic talent.
Nevertheless, they have one skill that the Artist usually lacks: the facility to see and recruit talents. Given that they cannot be an Artist or a Technician at full capacity, the Producer tends to use that knowledge to interact and identify the right people for the right job.
Their great weakness is related to that, a producer cannot get far without a team, this is also true for the other two profiles, but in the Producer’s case is worse, because they literally cannot achieve anything artistic or technical at 100% by themselves without other professionals that help them overcome their shortcomings in both aspects. Nonetheless, there are exceptions to the rule.
At this point, we already know the three profiles to an extent, but how do they relate to each other, and how flexible are these profiles between each other?
Well, that would be for the next episode.
